EFC 123 -MAD DOG AND THE PITBULL AT AFRICA VS BRAZIL
MAD DOG AND THE PITBULL AT AFRICA VS BRAZIL
AN INDEPTH LOOK AT THE TWO NATALIANS SET IN BATTLE

Johannesburg, South Africa – The greatest female fighter in the history of African combat sports returns to reclaim her title at EFC 123 on the 8th of May against the rising star of Brazilian mixed-martial arts in a fight between two Natalians for the EFC Flyweight Championship of the World!

Ask any Fight fan, who the greatest female mixed martial artist from the African continent might be, the first name crossing lips is Amanda ‘Mad Dog’ Lino from the warrior province of KwaZulu-Natal. Not just for being a torch-bearing, pathfinding forerunner, not only for being one of the first double-division champions in EFC history, not because her jaw-dropping finishes rank amongst the best on the promotional server,
neither due to it being a decade to the day since she first stepped-foot into the Hexagon on her professional debut nor for stepping straight back out of it after a first-round knockout of Ireland’s Stephanie Quaile.

But because she’s pure pay-per-view.

After that inaugural late summer evening stoppage on the shores of the Indian Ocean came another first-round fist finish at EFC 47 followed by the second-round tap from Trossee at 60 for the belt, then the glorious come-from-behind win against Zouak at 70 creating history as the first woman in global mixed-martial arts to become a two-division champion, a whole seven months before another Amanda repeated the feat by beating Cris Cyborg in Cali at UFC 232. Though losing the 125lb strap during Fiorot’s ferocious 14-fight win streak which now places the Frenchwoman opposite Shevchenko next month for UFC flyweight gold, Lino spent lockdown building her business and mentoring the national amateur team before eventually vacating the 135lb belt and lying in wait, because if history has taught us one thing, it is that when legends return to the battlefield it is never to face an unworthy foe.

Five years later and the wait will finally be over with the touchdown of a red-eye from São Paulo carrying with it, Mariana ‘Guerriera’ Salles. Emanating from the world-famous Pitbull team in Rio Grande do Norte, which has provided EFC with a steady stream of champions and contenders such as Reinaldo Ekson, José da Rocha, and Mariana’s longtime coach - Gian ‘Patolino’ Souza, Salles is a fighter moulded in the image of her hero and mentor, the four-time Bellator champion Patricio Pitbull. Originally from Paraíba, she made ends meet as a supermarket cashier, a laundromat attendant, a cleaner and a factory worker until the pandemic hit. Seeing an opportunity for natural health solutions at a time of immunological uncertainty, she turned her fortunes around by trading in the wonder-berry açai made famous by the Gracie family, and it was this smart career-switch that provided the income to move permanently to Natal and train full-time at Pitbull Brothers. With a strong Karate background, she fell in love with Jiu- Jitsu in 2016 before transitioning to MMA in 2019 where she has several KO wins on her record, the most recent of which being a stupendous knockout in Colombia. With a propensity to go toe-to-toe with her opponents and a stifling grappling offense, she is the perfect match for the Ballito Brawler in the co-main event of the numerical lodestone of EFC 123 in Johannesburg. But this incredible clash between the two fiercest female fighters of southern republics is not the only title fight going down on the 8th of May as EFC 123 is set to be one of the biggest fight nights in the history of the promotion!

EFC 123 AFRICA VS BRAZIL
EFC 123 AFRICA VS BRAZIL
FINAL BOUTS CONFIRMED AHEAD OF TRIPLE TITLE HEADLINERS
Johannesburg, South Africa – The final bouts for EFC 123: Africa vs Brazil have been confirmed, adding even more firepower to an already stacked card. With three titles on the line at the top of the event, these final matchups round off what promises to be a historic night at the World Sports Betting Arena.

Zhane Tannous vs. Mark Kamba – Prelim bout
One of the continent’s brightest amateur stars finally steps into the professional spotlight, as Zhane Tannous makes his long-awaited debut in the Hexagon. A multipletitle winner at the amateur level, Tannous is a proud graduate of NWU with a degree in Business and Economics and a technical specialist under submission coach Roevan de Beer at CGA in Potchefstroom. Known for his slick transitions and calm composure, Tannous has shown he can finish fights with precision — whether standing or on the ground.

Welcoming him to the professional ranks is none other than Congolese juggernaut Mark “Batolo Bacharge” Kamba, a fan favourite with hands that have ended more than a few dreams. With nine years of EFC experience, Kamba is riding the wave of a stunning first-round KO of Jaden van der Merwe, following previous brutal finishes of Elvis Ngwalangwala and Tyron Bester. Tannous may be new to the pro scene, but he’s no greenhorn — and this middleweight battle is a collision of hunger and heavy artillery.

Terence Balelo vs. Marcio Oliveira – Main card bout
The Hex welcomes an international flyweight showdown as South Africa’s own Terence “Black Panther” Balelo takes on Brazil’s Marcio “Sayajin” Oliveira.

Fresh off a hard-fought campaign as number one contender, Balelo finds himself at a career crossroads. With the recent departure of flyweight champion Edson to ONE FC, many expected Balelo to wait for a title shot — but instead, the warrior’s mentality prevailed. Choosing to stay active and test himself against the best Brazil has to offer, Balelo now faces a dangerous challenge in Oliveira.

With a 7-2 record and an impressive submission arsenal, Oliveira is a proud representative of Itacoatiara, Amazonas. His well-rounded game and finishing instinct make him a formidable opponent in the Hexagon. For Balelo, it’s not just about proving he belongs at the top — it’s about earning it all over again.

A Night of Titles, Nations, and Legacy
EFC 123 is anchored by three explosive championship clashes, including:
• Amanda Lino vs. Mariana Salles for the vacant women’s flyweight title
• JC Lamprecht vs. Luis Paulo Picanço in a brutal light heavyweight showdown
• Willie van Rooyen vs. Kleberson Sousa for the vacant flyweight belt
Africa’s finest meet Brazil’s best in a battle of nations, generations, and rising legacies.
EFC 123 Africa vs Brazil takes place on Thursday 8th May 2025, live from the World

THE ZAMBIAN TAKEOVER HAS BEGUN!
6th March 2025

THE ZAMBIAN TAKEOVER HAS BEGUN!

Johannesburg, South Africa - Zambia's undefeated Ken 'The Takeover' Sekeletu emerged victorious from the main event of EFC 121 in front of delirious crowds as he took the featherweight title from South Africa's champion Roedie Roets in one spectacular round.

With Roets coming-out fast from the bell it was evident that his title defence gameplan was to clinch up and grapple the Zambian, but it was in this position that Sekeletu was able to deploy elbows to the side of his opponents head and leave the champion worse for wear at the bell. It was immediately evident that Roets was concussed and confused and seemingly indicating that this was as a result of illegal blows to the back of the head, though the action reply failed to show any. When the time came for the second round, Roets was still unable to continue, handing the belt to Sekeletu who makes history as the first MMA champion from Zambia.

The new champion will not be allowed to rest upon his laurels however, as the co-main event was staged to select his next challenger between Ayanda Zwane and Billy Oosthuizen. Over two rounds, Zwane's kickboxing and mercurial movement flummoxed his foe, who began to bleed profusely from his wounds. But in the third, knowing he was down two rounds, 'The Kid' took Zwane to the canvas and sank in a rear-naked choke to take the tap in a sensational come-from-behind victory.

Fans were treated to a back-and-forth war between Musa Sethwape and Lucky Magekha which mostly stayed on the feet. Sethwape's counter game was strong against the forward-footed Magheka and it was this strategy that convinced the judges to give 'Bad News' the razor-thin split decision. Opening the card was a Congo/Senegal clash between Diego Bandu and debutante Mouhamid Tafsir Ba in which both athletes engaged on the feet, with Ba particularly scoring the more effective shots but it was Bandu who walked away with the unanimous decision. All eyes now turn to the heavyweight title fight in April between France's Champion Anthony Morel and Zimbabwe's challenger, Elvis Moyo.

SECURITY SEPARATE SCUFFLES AT THE SCALE
Johannesburg, South Africa - All bouts for the stacked EFC 121 card are locked and loaded as the World Sports Betting Arena played host to the first weigh-ins of 2025 where battle lines were resolutely drawn in the sand.

In front of a baying crowd of fight fans who have been eagerly awaiting Africa’s first major combat sports event of 2025, the interim Featherweight Champion Roedie ‘Relentless’ Roets faced-down his undefeated challenger from Zambia, Ken ‘The Takeover’ Sekeletu with a steely gaze. As Roets vowed to defend the belt in honour of its former wearer, his close teammate Igeu Kabesa, Sekeletu promised in turn that the title was undoubtedly heading back to Lusaka.

The co-main event slot at EFC 121 will decide the number one contender in the same division and it was at this face-off that Night Guard security earnt their cheque as Billy ‘The Kid’ Oosthuizen and Ayanda ‘The Power’ Zwane had to be separated once it became evident they were happy to throw down ahead of tomorrow night’s proceedings. With ‘The Kid’ a significant favourite at World Sports Betting, former contender Zwane will be desperate to get past the veteran gunslinger for another shot at Roets’s gold.

Conversely, Musa Sethwape stepped onto the scale as a 4.00 underdog which means a wager on ‘Bad News’ of R100 would bag the winning punter a return of R500. He was all smiles as he faced-off with his opponent Lucky Magekha who was fined for being on the wrong side of the needle. The two veterans of Hanru Botha and Kaleka Kabanda however, were the epitome of professionalism with 26 bouts between them ensuring no such deliberations whilst the first main card matchup of the debuting Senegalese powerhouse Mouhamed Tafsir Ba against the imposing Diego Bandu required the latter to make a second cutting attempt which he achieved successfully.

With 16 other fighters making their intentions on the undercard clear, all 13 bouts for EFC 121 have been rubber-stamped by the governing body, setting into motion an event primed to kick-off EFC’s 2025 in violent style!

The Official Weigh-In Results are:

Flyweight Mfanafuthi Ngobese 123.2lbs vs Tebatso Matlhobowane 124.4lbs

Bantamweight Godfrey Mkhwanazi 134.8lbs vs Ash Zola 137lbs*

Bantamweight Mlungisi Mbizane 134.1lbs vs Nicolaas Vermaak 132.6lbs

EFC 121 FIGHT WEEK IS HERE

EFC 121 FIGHT WEEK IS HERE African MMA Continues Its Relentless Takeover

Johannesburg, South Africa - Johannesburg, South Africa -

EFC 121 is ready to kick-off the African combat sports year with a massive card this Thursday, featuring 13 power-packed bouts including one enthralling title fight in the main event at the World Sports Betting Arena in the City of Gold!

When Roedie Roets secured the interim featherweight title late last year, it was the culmination of a career that had taken him around the world from Polokwane to Phuket before a star-turn in the house in the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter. Following 5 gruelling rounds of total war in the fabled EFC Hexagon late last year ‘Relentess’ strapped the gold around his waist and declared himself ready for the next challenger. But in a case of being careful for what one wishes, up steps the undefeated Zambian finishing machine, Ken Sekeletu. With only one of his pro bouts going to decision, ‘The Takeover’ has a highlight reel which is the envy of many, with a variety of dizzying first-round finishes over top-drawer opponents including most recently a liver-kick KO of the highly-regarded Vince Bembe at Christmas. In the biggest fight of the Lusakan lutador’s life, he represents a massive challenge to Roets’s championship in the Limpopan’s very first title defence in the thrilling main event. Incredibly World Sports Betting currently has the challenger as the slight favourite going into this battle!

The entire EFC 121 main card is stacked to the rafters with the co-main slot occupied by the man whom Roets beat to that interim featherweight strap, Ayanda ‘Power’ Zwane taking on veteran gunslinger Billy Oosthuizen. With Zwane desperate to earn another title shot, he will have to contend with Oosthuizen's infamous brawling style and with four wins out of five recent bouts, Billy has laid claim to his own right for title-contention and a win over another topranking opponent like Zwane would surely rubber-stamp such a request.

Another returning vet is the man they rightly call ‘The Bully’, Hanru Botha who himself is coming-off a jaw-dropping KO of Osvaldo Benedito last year which is one of seven superb victories in the Hex, won during an EFC career spanning eleven years of action. In an intriguing clash of styles, this wrestler will undoubtedly duke it out on the feet against another returning fan favourite, Kaleka ‘Block’ Kabanda who recently fought for the title but came up short against the imperious Igeu Kabesa. With submission finishes of the likes of JT Botha and Guelor Sondi, Kabanda is a wily and dangerous grappler, which just happens to be the founding skillset of Botha.

It’s ‘Bad News’ for any opponent when Musa Sethwape makes that walk but Lucky Magekha will hope to stop the press with one of his customary quick finishes. Undefeated in the EFC, Lucky has sent several opponents packing in the first and is riding a four-fight winning streak, while Sethwape is looking to overturn a three-fight skid. Admittedly those losses against such standouts as Zulu and Balelo must be placed in the context of his victories over luminaries like Law, Komana and Ntambwe, Sethwape is as exciting as they come and always brings the trash talk to back up his fists regardless of him being the considerable underdog at World Sports Betting.

The main-card curtain-raiser is a middleweight collision between CIT’s towering Diego Bandu and promotional debutante Mouhamed Ba. Based in France, Ba is an electrifying and undefeated Senegalese headhunter who has massive knockout power in both hands courtesy of a stellar kickboxing career. But his opponent ‘Pangaman’ recently reminded EFC fans of his hellacious power with a first round KO with knees in his last outing and a resumé of destruction over the likes of Pretorius and Hlongwa. This one promises another spectacular finish.

With eight undercard bouts preceding this amazing main card of combat, EFC 121 is bound to provide another night of high-drama. The featured prelim fight will witness ‘Rush Hour’ returning to Jozi as Lihle Ngamntwini looks to continue his winning streak against the dynamic grappling specialist Salahuddin ‘Shady’ Plaatjies. Durban’s entertaining Tapiwa Katikati is always down for fist-fracas but must contend with the undefeated finisher from the DRC, Chadrack Yemba, before CIT veteran Sizwe Mnikhathi enters the Hex in his twenty-fourth fight in the five-sider against another fascinating signing from Senegal in heavy-handed debutante Gasmire Diatta.

With its biggest schedule yet after 16 years of growth, 2025 in the EFC is set to revolutionise the sport once more with a variety of formats and fight nights, which all begin with EFC 121 this Thursday 6th of March in one huge night of unmissable MMA action!

EFC 121 Roets vs Sekeletu for the Interim Featherweight Championship takes place on Thursday 6th March 2025, live from the World Sports Betting Arena at the EFC Performance Institute in JHB, South Africa.

EFC CONTENDER SERIES: DISCOVERING AFRICA'S FUTURE CHAMPIONS
EFC CONTENDER SERIES: DISCOVERING AFRICA'S FUTURE CHAMPIONS

Johannesburg, South Africa 5 December 2024 – The inaugural EFC Contender Series lit up the African MMA scene, highlighting the exceptional talent emerging from the continent. This new platform is designed to identify and showcase Africa's next-generation fighters, providing a pathway to the professional ranks while raising the profile of mixed martial arts in Africa. The night concluded with EFC contracts being offered to Ash Zola, Sean Frost, Brandon Santos, and Mfanafuthi Ngobese.

The event kicked off with a thrilling victory from Thapelo Malatjie, who secured the first win of the evening with a dominant rear-naked choke submission in the second round. Malatjie's smooth grappling transitions and sharp awareness were on full display as he capitalised on his opponent's mistakes, setting a high standard for the night's competition.

A highly anticipated bout of the night was the heavyweight clash between Emmanuel Okafor and Mbasa Khosa. In a brutal back-and-forth, Okafor showed incredible resilience, absorbing multiple punishing blows from Khosa. Despite his valiant effort, Okafor's body was pushed to its limits, and he was carried out of the Hexagon on a stretcher after three gruelling rounds. Khosa emerged victorious, but the fight showcased the heart and spirit of both competitors—setting the stage for a promising career for Khosa, whose striking power proved to be the difference in the contest.

Sean Frost delivered a masterclass in ground and pound against Grant Farrow, leaving no doubt about his dominance inside the Hex. He took control of the action, overwhelming his opponent with relentless pressure and precision strikes. His superior control on the ground was evident throughout the entire bout, as he consistently neutralized his opponent's attempts to escape or mount any offense. He walked away victorious with all three judges scoring in his favour.

Ash Zola showcased an exceptional level of composure and skill during his bout against Litha Madikiza that belied the intensity of the competition. His masterful display of technique and strategic dominance, pressured Madikiza at every turn, methodically breaking down his defence. The decisive moment came when Zola transitioned smoothly into a rear-naked choke, a submission that left their opponent with no avenue for escape.

The highlight of the evening came in the bout between rising stars Mfanafuthi Ngobese and Brandon Santos. Both fighters delivered a masterclass in MMA, combining technical striking with elite-level grappling. CLASH OF THE TITANS

Final EFC of the year unleashes a battle for glory!

Johannesburg, 12 December 2024: EFC 120 was an action-packed night of mixed martial arts, closing out the year with an unforgettable series of bouts that had fans on the edge of their seats. From title changes to grudge matches and debut victories, this event had it all. Here's a closer look at the key moments of the night:

The night ended with a thrilling title fight in the welterweight division between Luke Michael and Zaakir Badat. Michael came out aggressive, looking for a takedown early on, but Badat's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills and physical strength were on full display. Despite Michael's efforts, Badat was able to quickly regain control and reverse the position before unleashing a hellacious onslaught of ground and pound. The Champ then locked in a rear-naked choke, forcing Michael to tap out in the first round, securing Badat's victory and remain as the Welterweight Champion. His successful title defence marked his reign as the king of the welterweight division, further solidifying his elite status in EFC.

Though Michael came up short in this fight, he remains a formidable athlete in the middleweight division, holding onto his title in that division, setting-up intriguing future matchups in 2025.

The co-main event was a highly anticipated clash between Igeu Smiley Kabesa and Martin The Punisher Van Staden for the lightweight title. Both athletes were well aware of each other's strengths and weaknesses, and the fight played out with a sense of calculated strategy and intense action. The bout delivered exactly what fans were hoping for, with both men showcasing their skills and heart. However, it was Martin Van Staden who emerged victorious, staggering the champion with short but powerful shots and dethroning the most decorated EFC champion in history by sinking in a second-round rear-naked choke and claiming the Lightweight Championship. His performance was a testament to his resilience and tactical approach in the fight. Igeu Kabesa needed immediate medical attention post bout and was subsequently transported and admitted to hospital for urgent care. The EFC team is hoping to hear positive news regarding the situation and our thoughts are with him.

The grudge match between Musa Setwape and Shannon Van Tonder was full of bad blood, and as a result it did not disappoint. At the culmination of a heated fight week, Van Tonder proved to be the superior athlete on the night, outclassing Setwape on the feet to claim victory. His win answered the question of who the better athlete on the night was, with Van Tonder securing bragging rights in the rivalry though the record between the two foes now remain one a-piece. The result was a definitive win for Shannon Van Tonder, who cemented his place as a top contender in the division despite agreeing to the trilogy fight to decide who will have the ultimate bragging rights.

The prelims were filled with exciting prospects and raw talent, showcasing some of the best athletes South Africa has to offer.

Jaden Van der Merwe, a newly signed athlete, lived up to the hype by defeating seasoned competitor Christopher Matukane. Van der Merwe displayed his potential with a dominant performance, and the referee stopped the fight due to a TKO, signalling a bright future for Van der Merwe in the organization.

JT Botha made a sensational comeback after a tough streak, and with a deadly right hand, he took out his opponent in just 39 seconds, marking a quick and dominant victory.

Terrence Born, also making his professional debut in the heavyweight division, had a spectacular first outing. He faced Jeremie Tshibala, and the fight was a spectacle from start to finish. Born won his pro debut via a rear-naked choke, earning a Technical Decision after the referee intervened, adding another promising prospect to the EFC roster.

Overall, EFC 120 lived up to its billing as a showcase of South African MMA, with exciting matchups, brutal finishes, and title fights that will be remembered for years to come. The event not only crowned new champions but also featured the rise of fresh talent, making it a thrilling night for MMA fans. With so many storylines in play, there's no doubt that the future of the EFC looks brighter than ever!

EFC 120: THE MOST ANTICIPATED MMA EVENT OF THE YEAR!
EFC 120: THE MOST ANTICIPATED MMA EVENT OF THE YEAR!

9 December 2024 Johannesburg, South Africa- With two Championship titles on the line and a stacked fight card, EFC 120 is set to end the 2024 combat sports calendar in dramatic fashion.

Current Middleweight champion Luke Michael will challenge Zaakir Badat for the welterweight title to secure his name in the history books with the likes of other double champ status elite members like Dricus du Plessis. Durban's grappling phenom Zaakir Badat goes head to head with Michael as he mounts his very first title defence in a main event that pitches his jiu-jitsu excellence against Michaels' dominant wrestling in a tantalising clash of grappling styles. That being said, both athletes boast of massive highlight reel knockouts having fists that can finish a bout in a millisecond. The stakes for both fighters have never been higher.

Current double champ Igeu"Smiley" Kabesa is set to defend one of his belts in a lightweight championship bout against the formidable Martin 'The Punisher" Van Staden, who recently made his eager return to the hex. This matchup carries a rich history that adds weight to its significance. Kabesa and Van Staden are not just two of the most accomplished fighters ever to come out of Africa - but they are also friends and former training partners. Their rivalry will now be ignited under the bright lights of the EFC hexagon, where camaraderie makes way for championship ambition. This matchup promises to be one of the most thrilling and emotionally charged fights in EFC history.

The drama surrounding Musa "Bad News" Sethwape and Shannon Van Tonder adds yet another layer of intrigue to this already stacked card. Last year, Van Tonder was forced to withdraw from their scheduled bantamweight title fight and rematch just a day before the event due to health issues. Sethwape, ever the warrior, agreed to face last-minute replacement Terence "Black Panther" Balelo, who went on to defeat Sethwape and claim the Bantamweight Championship. Having fought previously at the landmark EFC 100 event, which Sethwape won by the judge's decision, Van Tonder is out for revenge, but 'Bad News' still has his eyes on the ultimate prize and is eager to get back on track toward a future showdown with the current bantamweight champion, Faeez Jacobs. With their bad blood yet to be settled, the grudge match between Sethwape and Van Tonder is sure to deliver fireworks.

With a fight card featuring some of the best up-and-coming talent, EFC 120 will be a night full of explosive action, unexpected twists, and the crowning of new champions or the defence of titles by some of the greatest names in the history of African MMA. Mark your calendars for December 12, 2024,Whether you're watching from home or in the stands, this event will have something for every MMA fan. NIGHT OF KNOCKOUTS DELIVERS THRILLING
NIGHT OF KNOCKOUTS DELIVERS THRILLING
Johannesburg, South Africa – 14 November 2024 – EFC 119 was a packed night.
With memorable knockouts, fierce competition, and dramatic upsets. The packed crowd witnessed jaw-dropping performances, with three explosive knockouts and newcomers making their mark against seasoned veterans.

Although the tension was palpable, there was also an incredible show of sportsmanship between Terence Balelo and Edson Machavane in their battle for the EFC Flyweight Championship. Both athletes showcased their striking skills in an intense five-round affair that had fans on the edge of their seats. The fight was an extremely close call, with spectators left astonished about the outcome until the very end. Ultimately, it was Edson Machavane who emerged victorious, with a split decision in his favour, crowning him the new EFC Flyweight Champion. EFC Matchmaker at the post-event press conference immediately offered Balelo a rematch.

The co-main event saw the EFC Women's Bantamweight Championship on the line, where Juliet Chukwu emerged as the new champion in a fight that again, went the full five rounds. Despite the relentless pressure from Dayne Quiet Storm Van Wyk, Chukwu kept her composure throughout, maintaining a cool and determined stance. Her striking precision and well-timed counter attacks earned her a unanimous decision victory, securing her place as the new EFC Bantamweight Champion and making history in Nigerian MMA.

In another anticipated match-up, Shadrack Nsua defeated the previously undefeated Siya The Chef Nomvemve. Though Nomvemve appeared to have control throughout the first two rounds, the seasoned Nsua used his experience to turn the tide in the final round, outworking the younger athlete and winning via unanimous decision. Nomvemve's frustration was clear, but it was Nsua's resilience and tactical approach that made the difference in this high-stakes matchup, opening the playing field for him to challenge Luke Michael in 2025.

Another show-stopping performance came from Horatious Alonu, who faced the highly touted and former champion, Ziko The Gorilla Makengela. The bout was a tactical battle, with Alonu remaining calm, focused, and patient. But in the final round, Alonu delivered a crushing knockout, effectively ending Makengele's dreams of another title shot next year. The win solidified Alonu's place as a force to be reckoned with in the division in a great night for the Nigerian contingent. Alonu is now the number one contender to face the next Welterweight Champion, to be decided at EFC 120 where Zaakir Badat takes on Luke Michael.

In one of the most shocking moments of the night, Patrick Ocheme defeated the heavily favored Kaleka Kabanda with a stunning knockout in the first round. Kabanda, who had been considered the favorite by World Sports Betting odds, was left stunned as Ocheme, undefeated in the EFC, made a statement with his lightning-fast hands, finishing fight with a series of powerful combos. Ocheme's knockout demonstrated once again that in the world of EFC, anything can happen. Kaleka "Block" Kabanda disputed referee Ferdi Basson's decision to call and stop to the bout as he tried to proceed with the fight.

Perhaps the most memorable moment of the night came from Durbanite British Boloyoang, who delivered a picture-perfect KO of Christian Omokhobio. The highlight-reel finish not only secured Boloyoang's victory but also turned heads as the athlete continues to build his legacy within the promotion. Fans are now eagerly awaiting to see what comes next for this rising star.

With three championship titles on the line next month at EFC 120, the road to the top has never been more exciting and Africans greatest combat sports promotion finishes a record-breaking year with its biggest fight card yet!

Official EFC 119 Weigh-ins

Johannesburg, 13 November 2024 – The atmosphere at the World Sports Betting EFC Arena was electric as 24 fighters took to the scales today ahead of tomorrow night's event. While tensions running high at the scale, every athlete successfully passed the governing body's muster and looked charged and ready for battle in what promises to be another truly unforgettable night of MMA action.

For fans of high-stakes action, the matchup between Kaleka Kabanda (6-7) and Patrick Ocheme (3-0) is a must-watch as it kicks-off the main card following a sensational set of preliminary bouts. World Sports Betting has Kabanda pegged as the clear favourite despite his hard-fought loss to Igeu Kabesa at EFC 112 where he nonetheless proved himself a formidable competitor and remains one to watch in the division. Ocheme, even though boasting of an undefeated perfect 3-0 record in the EFC is a massive WSB underdog. But the question remains: Can the rising star handle the experience and skill of a seasoned athlete like Kaleka "The Block" Kabanda? The outcome is anyone's guess.

The most heated moment of the weigh-ins came during the faceoff between interim flyweight champion Terence Black Panther Balelo and his challenger, Edson Trapdoor Spider Machavane. Balelo, known for his fiery yet enigmatic personality, attempted to rattle his opponent by getting in Machavane's face, but the undefeated Mozambican remained unshaken and unphased. The number 1 contender's calm demeanour only seemed to fuel the anticipation for their headlining title clash tomorrow night. With both fighters on the right side of the needle, the tension between the two promises to deliver fireworks in the Hexagon in one of the most hotly-anticipated championship clashes of the year.

With the women's bantamweight title fight occupying the co-main event, Pretorian Dayne "Quiet Storm" Van Wyk made a calm and composed appearance on the scales, looking focused and ready for her fight against Nigeria's knock-out artist Juliet Chukwu. Chukwu, similarly, weighed-in with a stoic calmness and both women appeared determined and prepared for the battle that awaits them tomorrow night.

Shadrack Nsua faced off against the undefeated Siya "The Chef" Nomvemve in what promises to be an intriguing clash of styles. Mpumalanga's Nomvemve, with a flawless 3-0 record in the EFC, enters the fight with momentum and confidence, but Gqeberha's giant Nsua is no stranger to high-level competition and will bring his wealth of experience to the Hex.

Another exciting fight on the card which is one of four Nigeria versus Congo clashes, sees Horatious Alonu take on Ziko The Gorilla Makengela. Alonu, a methodical and focused athlete, appeared sharp and ready as he hit the scales. Makengela, who's returning to the EFC after a year-long hiatus following his welterweight title loss to now teammate Mark Hulme (CIT), looked equally prepared. Makengela is eager to climb the rankings once again, eyeing a potential title shot after the champion is decided at EFC 120 next month.

With all 24 athletes making weight and ready for action, EFC 119 is shaping up to be a spectacular event courtesy of a card that features a compelling mix of top contenders, undefeated rising stars, and established veterans, all hungry for victory. As the athletes step into the hexagon tomorrow night, the energy in the arena will undoubtedly reach a fever pitch. So expect fireworks, as these warriors leave it all on the line for glory, title shots, and the chance to make their mark on the EFC stage. The Hex lights are set, the athletes are ready, and EFC 119 is poised to deliver a night of sensational MMA action.

EFC 119: ONE WEEK TO GO - A QUIET STORM IS BREWING
EFC 119: ONE WEEK TO GO - A QUIET STORM IS BREWING

7 November 2024, Johannesburg, South Africa – EFC 119 is poised to deliver an action-packed evening of world-class MMA, with two championship titles on the line which head a massive 12-fight card that promises to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

In the main event, current Interim Flyweight Champion Terence "Black Panther" Balelo will defend his title against the undefeated Edson "Trapdoor Spider" Machavane in what is expected to be an electrifying clash of styles. Machavane, with an immaculate 5-0-0 record in the EFC, has emerged as one of the most talented grappling prospects in the 125lb division. His last victory, a unanimous decision win in July 2024 earned him the Fight of the Night honours, showcasing his ability to go the distance in gruelling battles.

The Mozambican's flawless record and his remarkable fight IQ makes him arguably the toughest opponent Balelo has ever faced in his career. However, Balelo is feared throughout the division for his aggressive approach and lethal submission game, which made an immediate impact in his last fight against French kickboxer Liridon Ramani in June 2024, securing a first-round guillotine choke victory. His footwork, scrambles and lightning-quick finishing ability makes him one of the most dangerous men competing in the EFC today.

With two of the flyweight division's top fighters throwing down for gold in the Hexagon, this championship bout is guaranteed to be one of the most thrilling title fights of 2024. EFC fans are eagerly anticipating to see how Balelo's explosive style will fare against Machavane's precision and composure, with both athletes looking to solidify their place as the top flyweight in the organisation's history.

The co-main event will feature an explosive matchup for the EFC Women's Bantamweight Championship, as Juliet Chukwu (6-1-0) faces off against the undefeated Dayne "Quiet Storm" Van Wyk (4-0-0) in the biggest fight to go down in Women's MMA this year. Nigerian sensation Chukwu, the more experienced of the two, has already proven herself as one of the best in the division, and at 6-1, she is a seasoned competitor who possesses a well-rounded skillset that blends technique with raw power.

However, van Wyk, known for her stamina and titanium chin, enters the bout with an undefeated record in the EFC. The rising star from Pretoria has quickly gained attention with her never-back-down performances, and her unbreakable will to win makes her an incredibly dangerous opponent for Chukwu. This fight could see a battle of attrition, with Chukwu relying on her experience and tactical experience, while van Wyk looks to overpower her with her relentless forward-footed aggression and top-drawer cardio.

Will Chukwu be able to weather the storm Van Wyk is bringing into the Hex, or will it be the young star who claims the belt and cements herself as the new queen of the bantamweight division? This matchup promises to be an intriguing clash of styles, with both athletes poised to leave everything on the line in their pursuit of championship glory.

The preliminary card of EFC 119 is just as stacked, featuring a total of eight action-packed bouts that are sure to get fans fired up from the opening bell. A RELENTLESS COMEBACK FOR ROETS

EFC 118 Official Results

Johannesburg, South Africa – 10 October 2024: EFC 118 lived up to its hype, delivering a night of raw intensity and high-octane action that had fans on the edge of their seats. In a thrilling main event, Roedie Relentless Roets showcased his resilience and mastery inside the hexagon, securing the interim featherweight title with a stunning victory over the highly touted Ayanda The Power Zwane by a hairs breadth.

Roets returned to EFC with unwavering passion and grit, refusing to be denied in his quest for gold. Facing the fearsome knockout artist Ayanda Zwane, Roets immediately asserted control, using his lightning-fast takedowns and superior grappling to nullify Zwane's kickboxing counterattacks. But Zwane came back strong in the fourth round causing the Polokwane grappler no end of trouble with his superior striking. However, the pendulum swung back to Roets who dug deep to close the show with a strong final stanza after a mammoth bout, securing the victory with a unanimous decision. A true testament to Roets' unyielding determination, he earned the interim featherweight title in front of a raucous crowd.

In a bout that lived up to its hyped billing, Cole The Hitman Henning went toe-to-toe with EFC legend and former champion Martin The Punisher Van Staden in the co-main event. Van Staden, known for his explosive knockout power and fearsome striking, dominated Henning with a barrage of strikes. Henning fought back hard searching for telling counters, but was ultimately overwhelmed by Van Staden's precision, as The Punisher delivered a second-round TKO, sealing a dominant win.

In an epic clash of generations, Peace 'X' Nguphane proved that he remains a massive welterweight contender in the division. The young phenom from Potchefstroom unleashed a non-stop assault on veteran Jason Culverwell, who was hoping to make a triumphant return to the sport after a decade-long hiatus. Nguphane, full of youthful energy and lightning-fast strikes, left Culverwell with no room to move and despite Culverwell's experience, Nguphane's relentless attack overwhelmed him, securing a decisive victory and a continued ascent up the welterweight rankings.

The main card action kicked off with a bang as Elbert Steyn, another masterful wrestler, made quick work of K1 specialist Given Majuba. In an astonishing 40 seconds, Steyn showcased his grappling prowess, locking in an Americana submission that forced Majuba to tap out. Steyn's dominance in the opening round sent a clear message that he's a force to be reckoned with.

In a battle fuelled by tension from the weigh-ins, Ntando Zondi maintained his incredible undefeated streak, submitting Godfrey Mkhwanazi with a rear-naked choke in the second round. Zondi's victory extends his record to 3-0, but the fire between these two athletes is far from extinguished, with Mkhwanazi vowing to return for revenge.

In a fast-paced prelim flyweight contest, Micky Cloete and Kelvin Smit fought tooth and nail for three explosive rounds. Both fighters went the distance, refusing to back down, but it was Cloete who got the nod from the judges, taking the win by unanimous decision in a bout that left fans clamouring for more.

EFC 118 delivered one of the most electrifying nights in MMA, with fierce competition and unforgettable moments. Roets' relentless comeback for the interim featherweight title will be remembered as a defining moment of the night, but each athlete brought their best, leaving the fans clamouring for the next instalment.
